Mahi-mahi meal

Island Grilled Mahi-mahi

This past Valentine’s night, my boyfriend and I went to TGI Friday’s to celebrate. I was extremely ecstatic that it was my turn to choose the restaurant that night, because I really can’t imagine how sick I would be if I had to give in to his obsession with Olive Garden again. After a twenty-minute wait, we were seated and captivated by the menu content, I knew I wanted to try something new (which goes hand in hand with my taste-something-new-each-month-this-year goal). So, my selection for the night was Island Grilled Mahi-mahi.

The moment the mahi-mahi met my tastebuds, I fell in love with it, despite not knowing exactly what kind of fish it is. It was soft, delicious, and cooked to perfection. I was really pleased with my choice of meal and felt that it was a perfect Valentine’s night. Well.. that is until we went home and I looked up “mahi-mahi”. I almost jumped out of my skin when I discovered through expedia that mahi-mahi is also known as dolphin! My stomach twisted and turned. I was happy I got the chance to try a new meal, but the guilt of eating part of a precious dolphin was tearing me apart at the same time! As I researched further, I became somewhat relieved to learn that mahi-mahi is listed under sustainable seafood choices (they are abundant and are harvested as well as managed in environmentally friendly ways).
Have you recently tasted something new for the first time?

Couture Cakes

February 8, 2008

Despite the fact that 3 days have gone by since my 24th birthday, I’m still feeling festive :) I absolutely *HEART* the birthday cake my boyfriend got me (not to mention the wonderful party and gifts). He got me the only cake that I would eat without first fussing about its calorie content: Boston Cream Cake :D

However, it would be just fabulous if i can get my hands on one of these oh-so-couture cakes by the amazing baker Duff Goldman (photos courtesy of www.charmcitycakes.com) for my next birthday:

24: Young & Fabulous!

February 6, 2008

**GRIN** I turned 24 yesterday! Happy Birthday to me! [although I still feel like I'm 20 at heart.. *sigh*.. Seriously, time waits for no one, huh?] Anyways,  in the light of celebrating my 24th year of existence, I came up with 24 things I would like to accomplish this year, before the big 25 next year ;)

  1. Continue reading more often, start writing more often.. I believe it’s therapeutic
  2. Improve my French.. which would be easier if I still live in Montreal, Canada.. but I still have hope! =D
  3. Make red, silver, AND bronze the new black this year!
  4. Learn new eye makeup techniques. Implement them!
  5. Execute my creative ideas more often…
  6. Spend more time with my family.. I’m beyond excited, as we’ve been living in different continents for the past 5 years
  7. Speak like a woman, laugh like a girl
  8. Taste a new kind of food every month. Then blog about it!
  9. Expand my magnet & postcard collection :)
  10. Wardrobe upgrade: More dresses, less shorts tops, and absolutely NO baggy anything
  11. Be as eco-friendly as possible in everything I do
  12. Add more animal prints and polka dots (not in sequence, obviously) in my life
  13. Eat, breathe, and live healthier
  14. Travel to at least one other country that I have never been to. Then blog about it!
  15. Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize
  16. Initiate new friendship (or revive old ones) everyday
  17. Give more, take less
  18. Continue banishing lipsticks.. Only lipglosses allowed! Glittery ones most welcomed =)
  19. Learn (AND use) a new S.A.T. word each day
  20. Have conversations with little kids more often. They’re more brilliant than we give them credit for
  21. Save more $$$ (I know, I know.. this contradicts with goal #9, #14, & #22)
  22. Use the saved money for my dream of building a clothing boutique
  23. Stop trying to change things I have no control over.. advocate others to do the same
  24. Continue living life fabulously :D

ok ok.. realistically speaking, I would be tremendously happy if I get to achieve at least 3/4 of this list :)

“Life is like discovering a pot of platinum. It’s a glowing experience!” -Yours truly =)

Greetings! Welcome to my “Pot of Platinum”! This blog will mostly capture my life & it’s fabulous happenings [or at times lack of], my passion for fashion, trend-spotting, my ambitious attempt in opening a clothing boutique/creating a brand, my usual whine & grunts, and anything else pertaining to MOI. I hope everyone enjoys reading it as much as I enjoy writing it =)
